For a few years, I had the great pleasure and privilege of singing with my friends Paul, Nancy and John in our vocal quartet, Eclectica.
We sang mostly a cappella tunes, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. It was fun, challenging, and joyful. There’s nothing like making music!
Much to my chagrin, Paul and Nancy moved east, and Eclectica had to disband. I keep trying to get them to move back, or at least think about coming to visit and do a couple shows – or even sing in my living room! But it’s never happened.
When we were rehearsing, we would often do so at my place, where the next neighbor is quite close. One summer morning after our rehearsal, I saw a neighbor, who asked, “Did you hear the angels singing last night?”
My cats, at the other end of the spectrum, used to jump on my lap whenever I sang, and “yell” at me, while batting at my mouth with their paws. Honest review, I suppose.
We recorded a Christmas demo one year, and I thought I’d share it. It’s sort of a medley. Every once in a while it comes up in my iTunes shuffle, and makes me smile. I hope it does you, too.
Happy Holidays!
